Job Description

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities:

The successful candidate's core responsibilities will include, but not to be limited to:

  • Conducting quality control reviews of weather observations and forecasts products made by others and prepare summaries for command review.
  • Providing decision cycle weather input to help shape, plan, and execute Air Force, Army, Guard, Reserve and combatant command operations. Products and services will include mission briefings and weather graphics containing detailed mission execution forecasts for takeoff, en-route, destinations, and air refueling tracks worldwide.
  • Developing, analyzing, and evaluating security measures to ensure their actions meet mission requirements associated with Communications Security, Operations Security, and Computer Security (COMSEC/OPSEC/COMPUSEC).

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience as a Weather Forecaster supporting DoD operations working with the standard Air Force Weather Weapon Systems (OPS-II, LEADS and the Joint Environmental Toolkit).
  • Must have operational experience supporting the Army and/or Air Force in the CENTCOM AOR.
  • Must have an understanding of security principles, concepts, practices and processes/procedures for disseminating weather products and services.
  • Must have an understanding of standard operational weather requirements and processes with experience in desert climatology, light data, short-range forecasts, long-range forecasts, and observations.
  • Possess the skills to develop unique meteorological products that directly support CENTCOM AOR operations and have the ability to tailor the products and services for specific military operations and missions. For example, have the ability to analyze climatic regimes, geography, terrain, weather system characteristics, centralized weather products, and indigenous surface and upper air reports in order to forecast weather conditions for military installations.
  • Must be able to do the following:
    • Maintain meteorological watch and issue weather warnings/advisories for theatre operations
    • Observe, encode and disseminate surface weather observations.
    • Present weather briefings to aircrews, ground units, planners, and senior leaders.
    • Analyze and interpreted surface, upper air, local work charts, satellite pictures, radar displays and bulletins and prepare weather forecasts for combat flying areas and flying routes.
  • Must possess a thorough knowledge of satellite and radar imagery, computer-generated graphics, and weather communication equipment and instruments for analyzing atmospheric and space data information so they can consistently inform battle captains of impending sand storms.
  • Must have demonstrated the ability to effectively perform under high stress conditions associated with severe weather, following operational guidance and providing technical guidance to other weather forecasters.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
