Position Overview

C&S Companies is expanding our multi-disciplined highway and rail design practice in New York State. Come join the stable and collaborative Highway Design Engineering Team at C&S Companies. C&S is advancing the design of the Syracuse I-81 Viaduct, the largest upstate transportation project for NYSDOT. Be part of a team that thrives on the opportunities to work with a growing company. Position Responsibilities:

We are looking for motivated engineers with a concentration in civil and highway design experience. This position will require highway layout using Microstation and AutoCadd, detailing, report writing and estimating, following the phase I-VI NYSDOT design process. The qualified candidate will work closely with project managers with leadership of primary tasks. This position is design based but will require occasional field visits and/or construction support (estimated travel under 10%, primarily day trips in NY State).

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an accredited engineering program.
  • 7+ years in highway design experience for new and rehabilitation of highways, trails, and utility relocations.
  • PE License or intent to pursue a professional engineering license.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and MicroStation.
  • Must be independent, self-motivated and able to progress a design with minimal assistance.
  • Ability to own and manage project task budgets and schedules.
  • Strong written and oral communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a professional and interdisciplinary team environment.
  • Utilize safe work practices in accordance with federal, state, local, and company standards.
  • Communicate incidents, accidents, near misses, potential hazards, and unsafe working conditions to a supervisor or the Health and Safety Department as soon as identified.

Desired Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Experience with successfully completing New York State Department of Transportation projects and locally administered federal aid projects.
  • Perform quality reviews of design reports, plans, and construction cost estimates.
  • Participate and lead public presentations.
  • Preparation of contract documents through bidding and award.
  • Work with team in Client relationship management
  • Proposal technical writing and interview experience
  • Construction Inspection experience

Estimated Compensation Range: $90,000-110,000/year*

*Actual compensation may vary based on related work experience, geographical location and market conditions, education/training, certifications, and other credentials, as well as applicable knowledge and skills.
