Job Description

The Department of Neurology at the Columbia University Medical Center is currently seeking an Associate Research Scientist.

Under the supervision of Dr. Dritan Aguilliu, the Associate Research Scientist, will be involved in a project that will identify and test approaches (small RNAs) that targets the blood-brain barrier (BBB) for a long-lasting repair as a novel strategy to prevent adverse consequences of post-stroke that lead to vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID). The Associate Research Scientist will employ one established rodent model of ischemic stroke to evaluate the acute and long-term effect of a microRNA for neuroprotection in ischemic stroke and post-stroke VCID and assess cognitive endpoints that replicate clinical VCI. In parallel, the Associate Research Scientist will be involved with some of the analysis of human brains using the ROSMAP cohort to identify potential mechanisms at the human neurovascular unit that lead to post-stroke dementia, determine if they are shared between mouse and humans, and regulated by the microRNA. Will provide help to Dr. Agalliu with the preparation of manuscripts.
