Department purpose and structure
With a deep bench, our U.S. litigation practice provides clients with a full-service offering counselling on matters, including complex commercial disputes, financial institutions litigation, regulatory and white collar defense, antitrust, internal investigations and special investigations for boards, securities litigation, corruption investigations and litigation related to issues of regulatory compliance, intellectual property and professional liability.

Role purpose
This Senior Business Development Manager- US Litigation & Investigations and Regulatory ("SBDM") role is a fantastic opportunity to gain global experience working for one of the largest law firms in the world and to learn the unique approach that a truly global firm utilizes towards business development and marketing. Our U.S. team works cooperatively with our colleagues located in 44 other offices throughout the world as one integrated team.
The SBDM will provide day-to-day business development support focusing primarily on the Litigation & Investigations and Financial Services Regulatory ("LIR") practices. The SBDM will work with business development teams across the firm to help support these groups worldwide.

Job description
Context
This role involves acting as a reliable point of contact as it relates to the BD function of the LIR practices. The SBDM function is crucial to the day-to-day success of the business and this individual will play an essential part in this model.

Role and responsibilities
- Practice strategy, planning and execution: Working closely with the attorneys to develop and implement the marketing and business development strategy and plans for each partner and their practices
- Pitches, Proposals and Credentials: Working directly with the attorneys and central pitch team to create competitive proposals, credentials, pitches and presentations for work originating in the U.S. practices and for work from the A&O network, involving the U.S. partners.
- Cross-practice & cross-office integration: Using an understanding of the firm's international partner and business development network (and the varied range of working practices/styles across the firm) coordination of existing projects and development of new opportunities.
- Market Research: Lead proactive market research on existing and prospective clients and market issues which may impact clients' businesses and providing advice on effective marketing strategies to address these issues; manage junior team members with respect to developing high-level summaries for LIR partners.
- Marketing discussion & review: Arranging and chairing meetings with the practice groups to review progress on marketing projects and key client targeting
- Profile/PR: Working with our PR team to spot opportunities and maintain effective press coverage on major market developments; drafting entries for legal and industry directories. Determination of high profile matters and issues of the LIR practices in order to ensure press and internal coverage where appropriate.
- Sponsorships and Client Events: Identifying and coordinating firm sponsorships of conferences (e.g., targeting speaker opportunities, coordinating materials and speakers, conducting event follow-up, etc.) and, together with the US Events Specialist, planning client events and seminars; implement an ROI analysis process to ensure smart investment of marketing dollars year-over-year.
- Expertise database: Maintaining records (in our global database) of Litigation and Regulatory proposals and matters and ensuring that information about these matters is appropriately documented and disseminated to other internal groups.
- Team management: Mentor and collaborate with junior team members, ensuring appropriate work opportunities and allocation, and support of team members' long term goals and training. Manage appraisals and coordinate promotion discussions as needed.

Team
This position reports directly to the CMBDO - Americas, but also work closely with other members of staff, including but not limited to the wider BD team and Litigation team members.

- Experience in, and ability to deliver at, a complex organization (e.g., significant law firm or large professional services environment).
- A self-starter with the ability prioritize, multi-task and drive forward multiple projects, using limited partner availability in the most effective way.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- 8 to 10 years of professional services experience working in a high-profile, fast-paced environment, particularly with experience in the Litigation space.

The annualized base salary range for this position is $210,000 to $250,000. The actual base salary offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and other job-related factors permitted by law.
