We are searching for expertise, practical experience, and visionary thinking in manufacturing data science. Our customers are based across the country and include world-class leaders in the aerospace, automotive, consumer products, electronics, medical, energy & chemical, government, and heavy manufacturing industries.

EWI's Data science group acts as turbo charger for EWI's innovation engine. We specialize in working cross-disciplinary with EWI's cutting-edge manufacturing technology teams including additive manufacturing (3D printing), advanced stamping, robotics, ultrasonics, and lasers. Data science focuses include using in-line sensing to predict part quality, semi-analytical modeling, probabilistic modeling, and data modeling.

We are currently looking to add a data scientist to our collaborative team of researchers.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with world-leading manufacturing process experts to understand manufacturing challenges in areas such as
    • Additive manufacturing (3D printing)
    • Advanced stamping
    • Robotics
    • Ultrasonics
    • Lasers
  • Identify potential solutions that could bring clear value to manufacturers
  • Instrument sensors and plan data acquisition
  • Organize data so that it is findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable
  • Develop, apply, iterate, and test analytics
  • Present results to stakeholders
  • Establish thought leadership through conference presentations, peer reviewed publications, patents, and marketing pieces
Minimum Requirements

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

The candidate must have all of the following general skills:

  • Python and version control
  • Experience with algorithms including big O time estimates
  • Experience testing and applying a range of ML/AI approaches
  • Ability to interface with manufacturing process experts
  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to work well with ever-changing priorities and/or situations
  • Exhibit and maintain positive, solutions-oriented attitude toward work and co-workers
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under stress, despite numerous interruptions
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in assigned tasks on a consistent basis
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of associates
  • Team-oriented attitude and focus with strong ability to collaborate with others

The candidate should have at least one of the following deep skills:

  • Demonstrated expertise in data modeling including schema development and metadata curation. Experience with semantic web preferred.
  • Demonstrated real-world applications of statistics including probability theory. Experience with Bayesian networks preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in sensor interfacing, data logging, sensor interpretation, and controls. Additional experience in human interface development preferred.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level;
  • Use finger dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, manipulate, and measure;
  • Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stoop, bend, and crouch; and
  • Lift ten to 10 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionally

EDUCATION:

  • B.S. in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, or similar discipline
  • M.S. degree preferred
