At Stony Brook Medicine the Electrical Engineer shall provide Engineering design and Construction Drawings of new facilities and renovations/alteration to existing SBUH owned or leased facilities while working directly with Hospital Architectural Services (HAS) staff members. Services include identification, verification of existing visible building conditions, design solution and preparation of construction documents. Project program requirements will be gathered by the incumbent or be conveyed through the department director. When working with external design consultants, services include participation in planning, review of design, final construction documents and inspection of completed construction work to ensure the work meets the intended design and building code requirements.
The incumbent shall be able to prepare design and construction documents which include but are not limited to floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, Circuiting and Electrical Riser Diagrams. Incumbent shall be required to coordinate with in-house Mechanical Design disciplines and in-house electrical and mechanical construction staff with necessary information to compile a complete and accurate set of construction drawings.
On projects requiring the services of an outside architectural/engineering consultant or firm, the incumbent will work with the Procurement Department to obtain professional services through RFP / RFQ process. Subsequently, the incumbent will assist with the respective contracts and project coordination.
The incumbent may work closely with Fire Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Physical Plant, SBUH Facilities, end users, and outside consultants/contractors where necessary.

Qualifications
Required: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or other related field. Five years directly related building systems electrical engineering experience is required. Experience should include involvement with clinical and administrative staff in planning; design and code compliance; presentation of preliminary drawings and prototypes; preparation / revision of drawings and construction documents; coordination and supervision of consultants and contractors; and oversight of building construction / alteration. The incumbent shall possess a fundamental understanding of AIA Guidelines for Facilities Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities (FGI, 2020 Edition) and the New York State Building code (2018 Edition) and NFPA 101 (2012 edition). Ability to investigate conditions above the ceiling.
Preferred: A Professional Engineering (P.E.) license to practice in New York State. A working knowledge of Department of Health codes, JCAHO requirements, ASHE, ASHRAE, ASTM, all applicable building codes and AIA guidelines for Design and Construction of Healthcare Facilities is strongly preferred. Some building systems electrical design experience is preferred. Three years electrical engineering experience in a healthcare related facility is preferred. Familiarity with terminology used in estimating new construction/renovation projects in a health care setting.

Anticipated Pay Range:
The salary for this position has been established as $100,000 - $130,000 / year.
The above salary represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
In addition, all UUP positions have an additional ($3,087) for Location Stipend annually,
