Type of Work: Full-Time

Essential Functions and Job Responsibilities
    Assists physicians with patient care; assists in the operating room as needed. Properly fits and applies pre-operative braces, crutches, and other soft goods; assists in preparation for and application of casts and orthopedic appliances; changes dressings; removes sutures, casts, and splints.
  • Assists physicians and nurses with orthopedic procedures, including wound care, aspirations, minor and major surgical procedures, fracture reductions, etc.; instructs patients in cast and traction care and the use of orthopedic appliances.
  • Performs venipuncture (if certified)
  • Maintains clean, well-stocked exam and cast rooms.
  • Orders special supplies and/or equipment.
  • Coordinates data collection resources for the clinic information systems.
  • Remains current with orthopedic trends, care and supplies.
  • Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation and equipment. (Central Instrument Processing Center)
  • Accurately prepares room & patients for examinations, to include all needed equipment and supplies are available prior to the start of the exam. Takes, monitors and records physiological measurements.
  • Triages urgent needs and review referrals with physician supervision
  • Prepares and administers medications under the supervision of a nurse or health care provider; orders clinic stock medications
  • Upon completion of procedures and exams, properly cleans and organizes exam rooms and performs necessary cleaning of equipment and work area as established by department policies and procedures and standards.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and employee safe work habits.
  • Provides patients with the utmost care and attention. All patients shall be assured of their privacy and personal dignity.
  • Performs Front Desk duties to include, but not limited to, screen and checks-in patients, answer phones, relay messages, book appointments, prepare providers schedules, assist patient's needs
  • Assist with routine and emergency orthopedic procedures.
  • Prepare all documents to meet or exceed established standards of the MTF, to include, but not limited to, timeliness, accuracy, content and signature.
  • Adhere to infection control procedures including use of personal protective equipment.
  • Assists with pre-operative process: prepares documents, orders diagnostic exams and print results
  • Performs other administrative functions as assigned, such as, but not limited to: infection control monitor, supply custodian, and clinic safety monitor.
Minimum Requirements
  • Degree/Education: High school diploma or equivalent with additional training or education; supplemented with one (1) year of related experience in an accredited health care hospital which results in familiarity with and knowledge of hospital or clinic routines and operative procedures in orthopedics, including orthopedic trauma service, pediatrics, hand, foot and ankle, sports, and/or spine.
    • Must be a graduate of a Surgical Technologist program.
  • Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Maintain a national certification by American society of Orthopedic Professionals (ASOP) or National Board for Certification of Orthopedic Technologists. (NBCOT)
  • Experience: One year of related experience in an accredited health care hospital.
  • Citizenship:S. Citizen
  • Credentialing: Ability to pass background check and drug screen. Current physical and immunizations.
  • Physical Requirements: You must be on the premises to perform the job. The environment is fast-paced and multifaceted, with conditions and duties that can change quickly throughout a shift.
