Job Description

The Cancer Center fosters team science efforts, providing an environment where statisticians can advance standard statistical pipelines and cutting-edge quantitative science methodologies for state-of-the-art clinical studies. Thus, the members of the biostatistics shared resource have strong collaborations with Cancer Center investigators and quantitative science Departments in the broader Johns Hopkins University, including the Departments of Biostatistics and Epidemiology in the Bloomberg School of Public Health. We are seeking a Biostatistician who carries out, under supervision of faculty members or a Principal Biostatistician, statistical analyses of clinical and laboratory studies. This individual also participates in the design of clinical and laboratory studies with supervision as above. Utilizes standard and non-standard biostatistics or bioinformatics methodologies in the design of studies and the production of statistical analyses. Collaborates with other biostatisticians and investigators in the preparation of presentations and publications. Opportunities for working on methodologic research with the faculty.



Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    • Consults with clinical and laboratory investigators to determine their needs with respect to statistical design of studies in collaboration with a member of the faculty and/or a Principal Biostatistician.
    • Carries out data quality check, derives analysis data set and performs statistical analysis using appropriate methodologic procedures, and interprets the results.
    • Prepares written reports of statistical analyses, including relevant statistical theory, references, methods, results, and conclusions.
    • Performs sample size and power calculations, generates randomization schema, and prepares statistical sections for research protocols and manuscripts.
    • Writes statistical design, methods, and analysis sections for research proposals in collaboration with the senior statistician.
    • Prepares interim and final reports of studies.
    • Participates in regularly scheduled meetings with study investigators and team.
    • Maintain appropriate systems for database associated management.
    • Keep abreast of technical and academic resources related to the methodology of statistical design and analyses.


    Minimum Qualifications
    • Masters Degree in biostatistics, statistics, mathematics, or related field.
    • Minimum of 1 years of related experience required.
    • Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.


    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experienced in cancer clinical trials and/or other clinical research-related studies including study design and data analysis preferred.


    Special Knowledge, Skills, or Abilities / Competencies

    • Expert knowledge of statistical languages, such as SAS or R. Knowledge of other programming languages, such as Matlab, Python, or C++, and database management (RedCap, SQL) is helpful but not required.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills in consulting with researchers and understanding their problems.
    • Excellent writing and verbal skills in the preparation and presentation of reports.
    • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details are required.

    Starting Salary Range: $55,200 - $96,600 Annually ($75,900 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
