The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), part of the State University of New York and an internationally renowned college of art, design, business and technology with a strong emphasis on liberal arts, sciences, invites nominations and applications for a Nurse Practitioner in Health Services.


Job Description:

Reporting to the Director of Health Services, the Nurse Practitioner will deliver primary care to students and employees emphasizing the promotion of health and the prevention of disease.

Responsibilities & Essential Functions:

  • Provide direct patient care clinical sessions.
  • Conduct a health history and performs a problem-specific examination as indicated by patient's reason for visit.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic test.
  • Identify and manage common health problems, both acute and chronic in accordance with approved guidelines.
  • Prescribe appropriate plan of care in a variety of modalities to meet wellness and illness including, but not limited to medications, nutrition, exercise and traditional nursing treatments.
  • Work collaboratively with health care providers in planning for patient care and makes referrals to other disciplines as indicated.
  • Evaluate and document patient's responses to the plan of care.
  • Conduct telephone consultations, laboratory follow-up and triage of walk-in patients with referral to appropriate providers.
  • Diagnose and prescribe appropriately as indicated by patient's assessment findings.
  • Advise and serve as a clinical resource for healthcare providers, and non-medically trained staff.
  • Assist with interviewing and mentoring newly hired nurse practitioners.
  • Participate in the development, review and revision of nurse practitioner agency specific practice guidelines.
  • Audit peer practice to assure overall quality of patient care.
  • Support and contribute to quality assurance and incorporate findings into practice.
  • Maintains student confidentiality and sensitivity.
  • Provides supportive administrative assistance and coverage to the Director of Health Service as needed.
  • Develops, administers and interprets policies and procedures in health service as well as accreditation criteria.
  • Serves as Infection Prevention and Control Safety Coordinator as well as Naloxone "Training of Dispensers" for the NYC Opioid Overdoes Prevention Program(OOPP).
  • Mentors, educates and trains health care providers on health service practice guidelines, protocols and point of care testing.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Nursing.
  • NYS Nurse Practitioner license and certification in Family Health or Adult Health; NYS Registered nurse license preferred.
  • Current NPI number and DEA certificate.
  • Ambulatory care experience required.
  • 1-3 years of appropriate experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Knowledge of principles and facts regarding diagnosing, and preventing disease, and improving and preserving physical and mental health and well-being.
  • Actively participates in the provisions and parameters of nurse practitioner practice.
  • Able to define, monitor and enforce quality of practice.
  • Meeting and maintaining eligibility requirements for professional certification.
  • Monitors federal state and local regulations to ensure development and implementation of effective clinical, medical and pharmacy services.
  • Exercises broad professional responsibility for nurse practitioner practice.
  • Operates in accordance with nurse practitioner certification and guidelines.
  • Assumes broad base of responsibility for maintaining competence in clinical practice.


Additional Information:

Salary

Salary: $130,000- $135,000 per year; commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Work Schedule

Days/Hours: M-F, 9am-5pm, in person; work schedule subject to change based on needs of the department.
