NXL is seeking a Water Resources Engineer to work at our Christiansburg, VA office on a wide range of interesting projects including NPDES/ TMDL, stormwater management, water resources, and transportation related projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.

Qualified applicants must have:

    5 to 10 years of project experience in water resources engineering
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil, Environmental, or other related Engineering with an emphasis in water resources
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong motivation to develop a range of water resources design skills and to work with a team approach
  • Valid driver's license with demonstrated safe driving practices

Desired (preferred) qualifications include:

  • Experience using MicroStation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD, or ArcMAP/GIS
  • Completion of (or plan to complete) the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE/EIT) Exam
  • Related MDOT design experience
  • Maryland design experience for stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, hydrologic/ hydraulic modeling, or NPDES/ TMDL related services

Some typical types of work assignments for this position are outlined below.

  • Prepare designs for drainage, stormwater management and erosion and sediment control
  • Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling analyses
  • Perform field investigations and evaluate existing conditions
  • Prepare engineering documents (plans, specifications, estimates) for review and approval
  • Assist with permitting for local, state, and federal agency approvals
  • Occasionally travel to project/client sites to complete tasks or attend meetings
