Ballard Spahr has an opportunity available for a UI/UX Designer to join our Project Management Office (PMO) within the Information Technology Department. The UI/UX Designer creates user-driven design by understanding business requirements and needs. It is the principle role for creating human-first product design on projects as well as setting firm-wide standards on the design of software systems. Some of the key deliverables for this role include story boards, process flows, site maps, wire frames, and prototypes to support design. All of this work is tied together through an evolving UI/UX framework which includes professionalized requirements and design elicitation with various internal business partners. This position is remote with occasional time in Philadelphia office for team events or meetings.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Developing, practicing, and contributing to the evolution of the UI/UX Framework as part of project work, including agile and waterfall methodologies.

  • Evaluating requirements and needs for each project and outlining a design approach with project team and business analyst; facilitating a design review and approval approach with stakeholders, project team members and project sponsorship.

  • Creating mock-ups and prototypes using common tools.

  • Developing and managing style guides and other standards for custom and packaged solutions.

  • Acting as consultant to teams across the firm to keeping applications in conformance with UI standards.

  • Defining, managing and facilitating design activities and the technologies related to surveys, mock-ups, and prototypes.

The selected individual will be self-motivated with strong customer service, team building and project management skills, have an exceptional attention to detail and problem solving skills and a high degree of initiative. Solid communication skills and the ability to work independently with minimum supervision on moderately complex tasks, set priorities and manage multiple deadlines are essential. Must be organized with the focus to sustain a high level of quality and consistency at all times, have a passion for driving change and a desire to improve upon delivery processes and standards.

Qualified applicants will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience, hands-on user experience with software graphic design, experience working with a software development project team, including active work with business analysts, project managers, developers and software testers on both Agile and Waterfall projects. Experience and desire to work in a fast-paced team environment. Ability to work independently on moderately complex tasks. Ability to multitask without loss of efficiency or accuracy. Demonstrated technology skills needed including software applications. Must be able to work beyond the standard scheduled hours, as needed. Previous experience working in a law firm or legal environment preferred.
