Position Highlights

The College of Health Sciences at the University of Arizona invites applications for a full-time, career track faculty position in the Physical Therapy program. We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual who will contribute to the development of a dynamic academic environment.

The developing Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program at the University of Arizona is seeking applications for a full time core faculty member who will also be working as Director of Clinical Education. The individual selected will demonstrate competence in clinical education with experience as a clinical instructor and teaching. As core faculty of a developing program, this individual will also be involved with curriculum development, service, and scholarship. In addition, the DCE's primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, administer, and monitor all clinical education activities on behalf of the academic program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.

As a developing program, the securing of sufficient clinical sites is a critical component of the candidacy application. The individual selected will be responsible for the development of the clinical education component of the curriculum as well as curriculum development in their area of expertise. The individual will also be responsible for selecting appropriate learning environments that support the mission of the program, and evaluating students to determine their ability to progress to the clinical learning environment and then their achievement of entry level competency.

The successful candidate must qualify for an appointment at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor and meet the requirements of career track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop, monitor and refine the clinical education component of the DPT program, to include establishing and maintaining clinical sites and clinical relationships, coordinating clinical placements for students and ensuring excellence in clinical education.
  • Communicate effectively between the academic program, the faculty, the clinical sites and the students to ensure all stakeholders have current knowledge of the program, and its mission.
  • Ensure all stakeholders are aware of the health care changes that affect clinical practice and education and resolve any issues that may arise between students and other stakeholders.
  • In coordination with the program director, maintain an appropriate teaching schedule that includes the clinical education courses.
  • Develop or continue an appropriate scholarship agenda and service to the University, College, Program and/or community, in coordination with the program director.
  • Provide leadership to individuals and groups.
  • Accountable for developing and implementing operational plans and policies.
  • Supervise up to 3 individuals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving and counseling skills.
  • Able to work independently and coordinate work with colleagues and peers.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Doctor of Physical Therapy and/or a licensed PT with an academic doctoral degree.
  • Licensed in the state of Arizona or ability to acquire a license in a timely manner.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a licensed PT.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical instruction or clinical coordination experience, or 2 years of teaching, curriculum development, and administration in a DPT program.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Skills and experience in large data bases and spreadsheets.
