This job oversees the delivery of patient care that promotes safety and well-being of all patients in the assigned department(s) on a twenty four hour basis. Plans, directs, coordinates, and evaluates the overall clinical nursing practice, educational and training activities, and administrative activities, including fiscal, material, and human resource management. Directs and integrates nursing professional development throughout the hospital and clinics. Collaborates with nursing and organizational management to implement educational goals and maintains open communication with all staff and the administrative team to promote improvement in performance.

Education

Required -Master's degree in nursing, education or related field.

Work Experience

Required -5 years ofclinical nurse experience and 2 years of education experience.
3 years of experience in a hospital environment as a manager, supervisor or charge nurse.

Certifications

Required - Current registered nurse (RN) license in state of practice

Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred - Certifications in specialty area.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

  • Knowledge of management principles and practices including performance improvement.

  • Ability to be self directed, work independently, and use good judgment in handling difficult situations.

  • Sound knowledge of nursing practice.

  • Good organizational and time management skills and ability to manage priorities and projects involving multiple constituencies.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally to varying levels of individuals throughout the patient care process.

  • Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.

  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g. more than 8 hours a day) and be able to travel throughout and between facilities.

Job Duties

  • Collaborates with system nursing professional development to conduct formal and informal needs assessments annually which identify educational goals and objectives.

  • Initiates and maintains effective, open communication with the company's nursing management team.

  • Initiates, supports, and facilitates change within the professional setting, congruent with institutional goals and objectives.

  • Collaborates with executive leadership in developing and managing budgets within areas of responsibility.

  • Identifies continuing education needs using a variety of assessment methods including, but not limited to, written documentation, observation, Performance Improvement activities, evaluation and implementation of new products.

  • Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the Louisiana Nurse Practice Act, ANA standards of Clinical Nursing Practice, and the company's mission.

  • Maintains appropriate quality control programs and the documentation of results.

  • Supports the leadership team in efforts aimed at customer service by recognizing and responding appropriately to verbal and nonverbal communication.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue, but exposure or potential for exposure may occur.
The incumbent works with patients who have known or suspected communicable diseases and may enter isolation rooms. The incumbent has an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
