Westat is seeking a Director of Infrastructure who will serve as a thought leader in their space and inspire a team that provides critical support to our organization. This role will interface with senior management across the firm to develop and implement strategies that have a direct impact on process efficiency and competitive capabilities for the company.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, working 1-2 days per week on-site at Westat's Corporate headquarters in Maryland.

Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and creativity within the organization, collaborating effectively with other areas of the organization to align technology solutions with business needs.
  • Develop and manage Operating and Capital IT budget, ensuring alignment with business priorities.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and support for the organization's infrastructure, including cloud technologies services, hardware, and software. Ensure security, scalability, and reliability across the organization infrastructure.
  • Manage vendor relationships, contract negotiations, and technology services.
  • Provide leadership and direction to Infrastructure team, consisting of server admins, data center operators, and other IT professionals, ensuring high performance and alignment with the organization goals through coaching, continuous learning, and staff development.
  • Develop, monitor, and analyze key performance indictors (KPI) metrics to identify areas for improvement and reporting to senior leadership.
  • Implement project management best practices and drive large scale technology initiative ensuring timely delivery.
  • Develop and implement operational standard operating procedures and best practice to drive efficiencies, business continuity plans and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensure compliance with industry and regulatory requirements, including FISMA Moderate compliance.


Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 15 years of progressive IT services experience including 10 years of leadership experience; or a bachelor's degree in a computer science related field with a minimum of 10 years of progressive IT services experience including leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
    • Supporting enterprise infrastructure solutions
    • Project management skills and ability to manage complex projects.
    • Managing and negotiating with external vendors/partners
    • Managing change
    • Supporting enterprise infrastructure solutions
    • Developing and growing talent
  • Proficiency with:
    • Active Directory, Entra ID, Okta and Microsoft 365Advanced understanding of storage area networks, hypervisors, and server operating systems.
    • Advanced understanding of Amazon and Azure Web Services
    • Creating Highly Available solutions, Disaster Recovery Planning, Systems Monitoring,
    • NIST- 800-53 controls
    • Windows Server, RedHat Enterprise Linux, and Ubuntu Operating Systems
    • VMware vSphere
    • Fortinet security products
